The wired 360 controller is my goto controller, due to games support and being a proper wired controller. But if something requires non-trivial use of the D-Pad, I'll use something else. My current collection is: Multiple DS3 controllers, DS4, wired 360, Xbox one, GameCube controller (with both official and the older non-official adapters) and a wii controller (with a few accessories) The DS4 with it's added gyroscopes and touchpad is probably the best hardware+feature wise, but official driver support is lacking. Whatever you do, don't try and use the Wii classic controller for anything that requires analog sticks, or use the wii pointer as a mouse. If you are going to swap controllers per emulator, then yes DS3 is better for ps2 emulation (but still drivers) And gamecube is different enough that you kind of want the actual gamecube controller if possible, otherwise you get holywars over if you should map the GameCube's B to the 360's B button or the 360's X button. Both options make sense for various reasons.
